The Playing Of The Positions With Small Advantage.

How to Play Positions with Small Advantage

Free sample

Dear readers of the magazine “Modern Chess”, as we all know, the last decade brought plenty of powerful computer programs into the chess world. Within the time, the computers become more powerful and strong, which radically changed about an understanding of the chess. The change is mostly visible in the field of the opening theory. The knowledge became accessible to the whole chess community, which led to a quick increase in the level of the games. If 20-25 years ago weaker chess players were losing from the openings, nowadays, the forces are equal. All the chess players (especially the young ones) invest great effort in the preparation for the games, which is why it became very difficult to gain advantage from the opening. Strong chess players more often outplay their opponents in equal positions, by creating them problems from the practical perspective that are harder to solve during the game. This is why the right playing of the positions with small advantage (or even equal) became one of the priorities. In this article, I would like to share with you some of the practical details, typical for this type of positions. By commenting two of my recent games, against strong opponents, I will try to explain my way of thinking in practical situations. I hope that the readers will take the maximum use of my img_9595835106_e4c7f244e9

In the first game, I managed to outplay the strong Serbian Grandmaster Perunovic in a popular variation in Catalan defence.

I have a better pawn structure and eventually better endgame, but my king was unsecured.

This was a wonderful example for a battle between static and dynamic factors.
